Born at 23 weeks, the season of hard was just beginning for Luke, his father, and his mom, Kim.
Expectations and dreams turned into a season of unknowns, medical challenges, and lasting needs for precious Luke when he was born prematurely.
The doctors prepared her: “If we can resuscitate him…if not, we’ll come over and you can hold him.”
But Kim trusted:
“I just had this extraordinary faith that Jesus is going to take care of my baby.”
That didn’t mean the road would be easy. In fact, it was and is a painful walk:
3 resuscitations.
19 brain surgeries in one year.
More than 45 surgeries.
Countless emergency room visits.
Where was the Lord?
“He’s always, always, always sustained us. Always been faithful.”
Being the primary caregiver is a heavy load. A lonely place at times. Being a mom to a precious child who has to work harder and go through surgeries and pain… is so difficult.
But loving Luke is a gift.
His care and needs will continue.
But Luke, his life, and the way he loves Jesus is a gift.
“I can grieve the losses and the things like the normalcy, but I can be really excited about who he is in the progress he is making as a person. And this journey has been like a culmination of these two things can always exist at the same time.”
Has life left you rattled? Maybe your circumstances seem unfair and the road ahead seems long. Listen and be encouraged by a faith that has endured and is enduring the hard—and still finds joy in the miracles, milestones, and God who has sustained her: Even When Joy and Pain Exist Together.
